And finally, we have come to the end of our watch through of the BLUSH San Francisco Film Festival. So, let’s rapid fire through some of these, but close with one truly stunning film.
NIGHT SHIFT
What goes on after hours at a warehouse? The mannequins come to life and pleasure one another. It was fine. Kind of basic, with not a lot of variety, but the performers were nice to look at.
ONE MINUTE SERIES
24 films that are each 60 seconds long. There’s a wide variety here of subject matter, quality, and sensuality. Unfortunately I’m hard-pressed to remember any of them.
ORGY EVERY OTHER DAY
People go to sex parties and feel more free and seen than on the streets of NYC. A story of finding your people, I guess. It didn’t stick in my memory.
CHAIR MOI
A Canadian offering! A woman reflects on her family tree, writes a letter and pleasures herself while sitting in a chair. It’s moody and atmospheric. Outside it’s cold and snowy. Inside her home is warm, a nice contrast. I suppose it does what it sets out to do.
Y2KAGE
Fun, but a little confusing. They sort of throw everything at the wall, no matter if it sticks or not. But, if you’re into furry content this might satiate you. Also, girl on girl action later on.
PROCESOS
In some ways I can see how this could be interesting for some. The different timeframes of a rigging session play out side by side by side, and every few moments the screen flashes with a photograph from the actual performance. It’s all very mellow and comfortable but Kage and I were bored. It’s probably important because we should uplift examples of artistic, proactive, empowering porn but we just found it dull. Good idea, worthy message, dull execution. Tyler Durden makes an art film.
BLUE MOVIE
Not to be confused with Andy Warhol’s Blue Movie. Hundreds of shots done with screen printing and presented like a flip book. Unique, and very artistic. It obviously took a great deal of time and the process behind the scenes is just as interesting as the final product. Super interesting, but understandably, regrettably short.
SIREN’S KISS
A man is lured into the water by a beautiful woman. They screw. He wakes up on the shore and wet. The fact this didn’t end in death is disappointing. It was fine.
LE PORNO DU MAL
It was trying to be erotic and gothic but the logistics raised too many questions. I think at one point the lady was humping the man’s boot but it was offscreen so… was it simulated? Don’t make us think. Too artsy for its own good.
A CERTAIN KIND
An important doc about the production of adult films with a cast of people with real bodies, disabilities, and alternative gender expression. Consent is thoroughly discussed, and it’s an interesting look into a particular type of porn production. Very human and vulnerable and respectful.
THE STAGE OF FLESH
If The Colour Out of Space made a porno. If the failed clones from Alien Ressurection fucked. AI trash that made Kage and I angry. Gross, uncanny garbage using stolen resources and outdated tech to create horrific shimmering skinflaps rubbing together. How many ponds were drained to make this drivel? 68. It doesn’t even get the fun sex number. Fuck off.
THE MALE GAZE RECIPE
I woman stuffs her womanhood with ingredients for a delectable meal. I think this is clever for its use of stop motion but it’s a very, very niche fetish and I personally found it a little gross, which is funny because I ended up really enjoying Tastes Like Chicken. The final line of “thanks, grandma” provides a weird sense of whiplash. It’s cheeky and witty but I found it off-putting.
CONVOLO
It’s hard to discuss this one without getting into spoilers but it took us both on a journey. A bride-to-be makes love to a man, and she sees that man’s likeness everywhere. Her chauffeur, her groom, and even the priest.
After we cracked the code of the meaning behind this short film, Kage and I really enjoyed it.
PACHAMAMA
A pretty woman in pretty make up and pretty lighting on a pretty soundstage has a sexy experience. It looks stunning and vibrant but the content past the visuals felt a little basic. Still, very pretty.
CRISTINA
A meditation on aging and sickness by way of vampire allegory. I’ll be honest, maybe I’m the idiot who just didn’t get it but this was over-long, and the narrative was confused. It was meant to all be a metaphor for illness, through vampirism, but in my humble opinion it didn’t communicate its ideas clearly. A shame, I really wanted to like this but it failed in its execution. It is most assuredly a work of art, and I know it’ll make someone feel something, but Kage and I didn't get it and were disinsentivized from getting it by it being so long and dense.
CUMRAGS
Two couples, or maybe four strangers? I think two friends, go to an underground club and partner swap for a while. It wasn’t bad but it just sort of washed over me. It was reminiscent of the final scene of Wasteland and Drive. The visuals were interesting and there was talent behind the camera.
INDULGANT DELIGHTS
The highlight of the entire film festival for us. A nude woman lifts a carnival glass jug filled with liquid glitter and covers herself from scalp to her toes. She poses, pets herself, tosses her long, sparkling hair and twerks for the camera. The bi-lighting strikes and bounces off the glitter innumerable times, making her absolutely shine. And then she takes out a violet wand and runs it along her shimmering skin. I do wish there was a little more variety in her movements than just twerking, and the electro toy didn’t give a very impressive shock at all but overall it’s just kind of an amazing experience.
Also, add that jug to the list of objects in adult films I also own.
So, there we are. A good helping of BLUSH, both good and bad, sexy and silly, enjoyable and eye-gouging. Here's to next year, and fresh meat.
Highlight: We absolutely loved Indulgant Delights. Easy 4.5, edging onto a 5.
Lowlight: If you want my honest opinion, the AI one should have been denied entry to the festival.
Until next time, my voracious voyeurs. I’m Lilith, and I’m always watching.
