Lilith's Notes: It's said to be the most explicit Nunsploitation movie of the time.

"A purifying burn, sister, that would keep hellfire away."

If you had told me back in 2018 that I would watch a second movie by the human who brought us the unbelievably inept Porno Holocaust, I would have said "Piffle!"

And yet, here's a nunsploitation movie from the human who brought us Porno Holocaust. And it's pretty fucking good!

Images in a Convent is the story of a woman named Isabella (Played by Paola Senatore), who comes to a convent run by Mother Angela (Played by Nana Aslanoglu), the Mother Superior. Although it's clear Isabella doesn't want to be there.

Meanwhile, Sister Marta (Played by Marina Hedman) comes across the lustful Sister Lacinia. Marta punishes Lacinia via a brutal flogging, then tends to the wounds with her tongue, gently licking and kissing the welts.

Then they fuck.

Nuns come across a wounded man (Played by Angelo Arquilla) in the courtyard and they bring him inside the convent to heal him, despite it being forbidden for a man to be under the roof of the nunnery.

From there, lust and sin continues to thrive. The nuns each try to gain the man's attention, and everything escalates until an exorcist is brought in. Then it gets worse. And by worse, I mean better. Much, much better.

Amidst all the sacrilegious, sapphic sexual soirees, the image of devil appears upon the altar in front of all the nuns.

Speaking of the sex, how were the sexual performances of this film? At first it came across, to me, as rather simulated. A lot of inner-thigh kissing, or rubbing hips instead of fondling breasts. Dry humping galore. Then, the movie said "Fuck you, Lilith!" and fingers started to penetrate vaginas, and dicks were sucked, flaccid though they may have been. The actresses were doing the bare minimum of touch-to-organ contact, but there was indeed contact.

In the final 10 minutes of the film, the exorcist tries to bless the nunnery, and the nuns skulk from their rooms and lift their frocks to expose themselves to him. They slide out of their rooms like moaning shadows and stalk the priest until he is overwhelmed.

Reader, it is so hot. And neat. And seductive. And I absolutely loved it. It's exactly what I imagined nunsploitation to be, it's what I wanted. The blasphemy, the heresy, the unholy lust and the exhausted resignation of the priest...

The chaos is only quelled when Isabella takes matters into her own hands, but even after that, the devil's presence still looms.

The score is interesting, as it sounds very much like a rip off of Tubular Bells, otherwise known as The Theme to the Exorcist. I guess if you're not confident in your subtext, just evoke thoughts of a movie with the same motif to really ram the point home.

Watching this film right after Behind Convent Walls is interesting. The aforementioned convent felt much more lived in than the one featured in Images in a Convent. but that's about the only point it has over the competition. In terms of characters and story, Images in a Convent wins, no contest.

I want to say D'Amato came a long way from his days on Porno Holocaust but this movie was made before that. What the fuck happened in the 80s, man?

It's a good movie. Though the sex is a little tame by today's standards but I could see how audiences of that decade viewed it as positively scandalous and it absolutely deserves it's reputation as the most explicit nunsploitation movie in its time.

Best Moment: The last five minutes of the film.

Worst Moment: Apparently there's a missing scene that runs for 3 minutes. In it, Sister Lacinia is possessed by the devil statue and pleasures herself before going to Isabella's room. This is the entire inciting incident of the film and the fact they cut it out hurts the narrative. My copy did not have this scene.

LILITH'S SCORE: 3.5/5

Until next time, my voracious voyeurs. I’m Lilith, and I’m always watching.
