"I said sit down."

Happy belated Valentine’s Day to all who practice. Boy, do we have a treat for you! Speaking of belated, it’s better late than never that Kage and I finally touched on this film… But we’ll discuss that aspect in a moment.

Angels of Passion is an 80s skin-flick about a threesome who, while enjoying some carnal delights, are killed when a runaway vehicle hits their gas-leaking RV and everything explodes.

The trio, Larry, Nancy and Kathy (Played by Steve Drake, Jessica Wylde and Tracey Adams) arrive in a train to the afterlife and learn the rules of their own eternal existence only for a crazy random happenstance to lead them to the names of three unfulfilled mortals who are considering taking a permanent nap.

So the three descend to earth and help these unfortunate souls through sex, sex and more sex.

In art. sex and death are often intertwined, and with good reason. Both are extreme versions of a state of being, or transition. So of course movie makers, even the smut-peddler ones, explore the relationship between the two.

Angels of Passion, however, kind of feels like someone saw the success of Devil in Miss Jones and decided to craft a more wholesome version of that. This isn’t a knock against the film, merely an observation. The real influence behind the scenes seems to be a an intentional play of 80s angel movies, which were a big thing once upon a time.

What I will knock is the ongoing subplot concerning Tom (played by Tom Byron) and his girlfriend, whom he keeps threatening to off himself if she breaks up with him. So, he is rewarded with a foursome between himself, Larry and the two beautiful angelic girls. Stupid idiot holding a woman emotionally hostage if he doesn’t get what he wants. I find such behavior infuriating.

Tom aside, the entire 80 minute escapade is a standard affair, and that’s fine with me. Sometimes in vintage film, the reach exceeds the grasp, and what the viewer is given is awkward, poorly directed, confusingly choreographed and ear-splittingly recorded. The presentation here is at least fine, if not typically cheap. Then again, it’s not like they had to spend an arm and a leg on the soundtrack. Which they apparently did.

Speaking of…

When everything is considered, Angels of Passion is just your typical 80s porno, and that’s fine, but what makes it special was what it had been hiding deep inside.

If you’re into lost media, you might have heard about a mysterious song known around the Internet as Everyone Knows That or, EKT. If not, sit down and accept a strange education.

In 2021, a user uploaded a 17 second snippet of a song, asking if anyone recognized it. No one did. Thus began an enduring and all-consuming search for the origin of the song. In 2024, it was finally discovered in a scene from this very porno!

There are various videos about the hunt for this mysterious song and I recommend exploring the journey yourself because while I am not big into lost media myself, though I do have my own white whale, it piqued even my interest before its origin was discovered. If you want to know more, I recommend Kylie Boggly’s videos on the subject.

And so we bring the gift of this review to you, on this, the month of St. Valentine’s.

Highlight: It's a fun parody of the 80s trope of angel movies, and was very 80s without feeling low quality 80s porny.

Lowlight: Some of the shots of fake penetration are blatantly obvious and can potentially take the viewer out of the experience.

LILITH'S SCORE: 3/5

Until next time, my voracious voyeurs. I’m Lilith, and I’m always watching.
