Lilith's Notes: So we meet again, nemesis of mine.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to witness the ravishment of a woman who has been abducted."
A while ago I was speaking with someone who is in their mid-20s and they said the original Ghostbusters does not hold up, and they couldn't even make it all the way through watching. But we all know it was revolutionary at its time. I think it's difficult some times to put ourselves in the mindset for something we were not there to experience first hand.
I sit back and watch some classics and can't fathom what made them rise to the top. Did audiences just have such low expectations back in the day?
If you've read my review of SexWorld you know I absolutely hate Behind the Green Door. I first saw it years ago, before reviewing pornos was even a thought in my mind. Back then, the only classics I had seen were The Image, and Caligula, but even to my untrained eye, I knew that this was a badly made film.
It starts with two men talking over brunch about pocket bananas or something and Gloria, (Played by Marilyn Chambers) sits down. She's a pretty girl with an unfortunate hairstyle.
Then, Gloria is abducted to be the main event at a sex party. She is massaged into submission and is brought out for the crowd. Many people in the crowd are wearing ill-fitting masks. There's nothing worse than a poorly fit mask.
A clown tries to entertain the crowd and it is lame. Where's the clown from Nightdreams when you need him most? Why have you forsaken us, fuckable-nosed clown?
Women begin touching Gloria like testing out the plushness of a throw rug. While this happens we are treated to the same insert shots of the crowd over and over again.
Then, the African Stud (Played by Johnnie Keyes) and he fucks Gloria. I guess for the early 70s interracial porn was taboo, I'm not sure and that's why this film is so infamous. But the sex is just so boring.
After she's fucked by the Stud, a swing descends and three nameless and basically faceless men sit upon it and Gloria jerks and sucks them off while the crowd gives into their desires.
Finally the guy Gloria is sucking off comes and suddenly it's a fucking horror movie with demonic music. The images on screen become all psychedelic. It's not sexy or special, it's anxiety inducing.
So maybe this film is important due to its content, which is commendable. One cannot deny that diversity is on the menu in this film. That's not an excuse to present said content in shoddy packaging.
It's all so ugly. There's very little music, the camera work is really shoddy, everything looks cheap, the lighting is atrocious, the acting is non-existent, the sound is uneven, the editing is garbage, the story is threadbare, and so on.
And most bizarre, this movie is so dry. It's like nobody at this party has any salivary glands. It's so weird.
They should show this movie as a pro-abstinence film. From it we are shown that sex is boring and awkward and doesn't feel good.
In fact, you won't feel a thing.
This is my second time watching Behind the Green Door and I dare say it's worse this time around.
I fucking hate this movie.
Best Moment: During one shot of the orgy, a woman climbs up on a man and practically sits on his face. Lady knows what she wants.
Worst Moment: Everyone looks bored ninty-five percent of the time. No one wants to be there.
LILITH'S SCORE: 1/5
Until next time, my voracious voyeurs. I’m Lilith, and I’m always watching.
