"Never have I ever..."

Ah, friendship. That thing we like to think will survive through thick and thin. A fragile tether that must be constantly nurtured and fortified, lest it shrivel and die.

Being a human is so difficult. Sometimes it feels like social mores are the tool of the devil.

In Grace, we follow Nadine (played by Kristen Scott) as she accepts an invitation to join a friend group for Thanksgiving. Reluctant at first, Nadine shows up and meets up with Grace (played by Ravyn Alexa), and her friends, the married couple Billie (played by Whitney Wright) and Austin (played by Michael Vegas). After a little bit of awkward, ice breaking conversation, the four enjoy their festive dinner, and wind down by the backyard fire, roasting marshmallows and sipping from a bottle.

The four of them have great chemistry, with easy, natural banter and off the cuff remarks. They all seem comfortable, and feel like a genuine friend group.

A rousing game of Never Have I Ever is suggested, and the four friends reveal uncomfortable, funny, and scandalous truths about themselves. Eventually Billie admits that she has never had a foursome. Well, they’re quick to change that.

For the next twenty-five minutes or so, the viewer is then treated to a rather enjoyable orgy. Everyone takes part, nobody is left behind, and it’s all laid out bare for everyone. There’s no drama. No jealousy. Just three pretty ladies, a man, and a firepit. The awkwardness of sex, like sliding off furniture, is embraced and laughed about. All in all, not only is it a bonding exercise, but it’s a great way to work off a succulent Thanksgiving meal.

The next morning, Billie and Austin go into town, leaving Grace and Nadine alone. There is a slight tinge of awkwardness in the air between the two. Grace enjoys some alone time in the shower, and the scene is a little awkward. She’s positioned her body so her leg covered the view of the fun time she was having. Counter-point, however, the sunlight streaming through the window was hitting her collarbone in such a way that her wet skin was positively glowing.

Nadine and Grace play some board games, find a Polaroid camera, take risque pictures and finally succumb to mutual lust.

Unfortunately, vacations are little bubbles of paradise, and Nadine has to return to the real world, and leave Grace behind, along with whatever might blossom between the two of them.

Grace is an effortless, somewhat cozy, sexy exploration of reforged bonds, acceptance, openness, and how and why people change. It’s fun, bittersweet, and charming.

But that’s not the best part. The best part is… that there’s a sequel.

Highlight: The chemestry between all the performers was perfect.

Lowlight: The sound balancing or mixing is atrocious. The music is too loud, some shots will have background noise and some won't. At one point they forgot to put the Phonecall Filter on the audio so both characters sounded like they were in the same room and not miles apart.

LILITH'S SCORE: 4/5

Until next time, my voracious voyeurs. I’m Lilith, and I’m always watching.
