"When suddenly..."
Sometimes it can feel like the grind of a writer is never-ending. Deadlines, articles, novels, outlines, novels, series, and, ahem, even movie reviews. The eternal push to produce product, content, but also to exorcize the ideas from our heads. It can all be a lot and sometimes we are simply bereft of inspiration and creativity. Burnout is real, and, despite what people might say, I believe writer’s block is also real.
There are only so many ways you can write a spicy scene. There are only so many euphemisms to use. If I told you I related to the main character of Inspiration, would any of you be shocked?
A writer (played by Sheila Ortega) is attempting to work on her book, but the words she is putting down on the digital page are not good, and she knows it. Her prose is littered with words such as “suddenly”, like crutches, and there is a lot of telling, not showing. I cringed a little at what bits of her work that were shared with us. This isn’t a writing critique group, of course, but the script writers knew how to make weak prose, so good for them.
Adrian falls asleep and who should step into the room but Carol (played by Anneke Necro) , the main character of her dreams. Carol decides to inspire her creator, with sexy results.
I’m not going to divulge my personal writing process and brainstorming sessions right here, right now, but despite how professional spicy authors say they are, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were several authors who have similar tactics for cultivating the scenarios in their novels.
What follows is a steamy lesbian scene. While it doesn’t break any barriers and won’t blow anyone’s mind, it’s hot and filmed well, two things that are both the base minimum we can ask of a porno, and yet are praise-worthy when we get them.
The plot is shallow, merely an excuse to get two women to have sext to its credit, it never abandons the plot, something that so many concept-porno’s have a bad habit of doing. They commit to the bit and return to the storyline for its logical conclusion.
It’s only a nineteen minute scene so there’s a limit to what I can say here, but if you want a quick lesbian scene, and don’t mind a fairly shallow plot that’s seen through to the end, Inspiration delivers.
And for you fellow authors out there, be good to your characters, and they’ll be good to you.
Highlight: The set up and plot are good.
Lowlight: The visuals are extremely basic. The lighting is flat and uninteresting.
LILITH'S SCORE: 3/5
Until next time, my voracious voyeurs. I’m Lilith, and I’m always watching.
